As time goes by

me around 3 years old

I got to thinking about time. Most of us approach life as if it is going to last forever, when in fact, in perspective, life is quite short. Maybe it's just me, but somehow I get the feeling we never get to enjoy the moment, as we're always thinking about the future while dragging the past behind. When was the last time you stopped and smelled the roses?

Now this is not another 'carpe diem' speech. As I was reading Clare's answers to my interview, a part of my mind was stuck on "I've always said I want to be Editor of Vogue." And while remembering my own childhood dream, I realised how easy it is to get sidetracked by, well, life. We grow up, replace toys with gadgets, want to get done with school as soon as possible, only to want to get through the work week fast. It is our life that we're actually getting through with, and missing out on. So if this is something, it's more of a  'are you living the life you want' type of speech. Because anything short of trying to fulfil your own personal dreams would really be a shame.

Bresson once said: "We cannot develop and print a memory." As far as I know, none of our contemporaries managed this task either. So make sure to fully experience and enjoy every moment, and keep the memories safe in your hearts :)

On the weekend, as part of Anim'est, the animation film festival, we got to see an amazing short animation called "The House of Small Cubes" (La Maison en Petits Cubes), a story so beautifully and sensitively said that by the end of it I was making efforts to stop crying. For your viewing pleasure, I embedded it bellow, and if you have the time to see it, I promise you won't regret it.

You couldn´t be more right, time and life fly and it is essential to live and enjoy the present.
I think the secret of happyness is to enjoy the little daily pleasure that we take for granted.

Of course they were Japanese! Japanese are geniuses! I begun to cry at the end, I particularly get emotional when I see stories like these in animation, than with real people. I don't know why. Every floor of that house with a memory in it, great! I often think about wasting time, but sometimes I feel there is nothing for me to do. Since I started college I felt more productive and eager to work, sew, design. But in art is difficult...

Oh...and you have naturally black hair? You look so much like a natural red-haired! :D

about 10/10/10 (reminds me of a funny video with a Chinese counting in English one, two, ten-ten-ten..) :)))) omg, I'm in love with the animation! :*10q

What a cute little fashionista you were! I have an album like that from when I was about 2 and I think I had a very similar dress to the one you're wearing in the first picture (I guess they were the IT thing then :P).

Thank you for the advice and the images. I always take some time to think about the past and to enjoy the present (it's the small things that count, really, and I try to "store" them in my mind, like little photos, then "browse" the album whenever I feel the need to).

The little animation is wonderful, I remember I had the same reaction while watching the beginning of UP.

those photos of you are so cute...and we do need to live more in the moment rather than focusing on what is to come or what happened in the past...

nu vreau sa ma uit la the video ca sunt in happy mode si din toate cometarile citite mie frica ca o sa plang si ca ma intristez.
iar tu as a baby were so cute. nici mie nu imi vine sa cred ca esti bruneta. arati exact ca si cum ai fi rosacata natural.oricum cred ca iti sta mai bine roscata. u pull it off so well. cred ca cea mai frumoasa roscata pe care am vazuto vreodata. inaite nu imi place culoarea dar de cand te stiu mia stat si mie gandul la rosu cu toate ca stiu ca ar fi cea mai urata culoare pentru mine.

I will post a comment while the short animation is loading. You seem to have impeccable taste, so, if you say it's good, I will take your word on it. About the topic of your post, I feel like us humans struggle a lot in our lives, so much pressure to achieve so many things when we have such a short life span. If we just realize that in life there is no such thing as keeping the score, we will be so much happier and relieved. You don't have to make a checklist, just go with whatever life has to offer you. A little faith that it will all turn out well eventually, won't hurt you.

Just saw the animation, beautiful indeed. I like how every story of the house represents a certain stage in a person's life. You build your life, "brick by brick" and by the end of it you have this castle filled with memories and achievements only to realize that it doesn't matter how grand your castle is because it will always get swept by the water ( time in this case). Very nice, thank you for sharing.

You were the cutest kid ever and such a little fashionista. I loved the animation, so sad and touching and honest. I’m always thinking that I’m wasting my time and just hope that one day I won’t loose my time and just enjoy everything!
